On 12th January, National Youth Day was celebrated on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda at Asimgre village of Dadenggre Block, WGH. The program was organized by Bakdil under the GRAM SEVA Program sponsored by SBI Foundation.

The theme of the program was “Channelizing Youth Power for Nation Building”.

In the program the youth of the villages were made aware of their responsibilities and how their every decision in life will affect the future of the village and Meghalaya. In the program youths were encouraged to form SHG and develop savings habit through bank linkage. After some period of savings in the bank, BAKDIL will facilitate them to get loan from bank to start various business activities.

Different start-up ideas were discussed and shared by the Project coordinator Mr Suraj K Bhagat. He urged the youth to look around and observe what is lacking in the area that can be taken forward with support from SBIF Programme. There is lack of many services and facilities in Dadenggre block which can be taken as opportunity to start new venture or start-up. He also gave an example that the traditional female costumes-“Dakmanda” of Garo community is prepared and ordered form Assam. So local youth can use the opportunity and can prepare the traditional costumes locally and market in the different parts of Meghalaya. Thus it is a good opportunity for the local youth to revive the actual traditional costumes and keep the tradition alive and earning some livelihood out of it at the same time.

In the program around 100 youths participated and 5 SHGs were formed. In the coming days, the group will be linked with the bank account.
