Wageasi PHC marks 12 years of Healthcare service under the maintenance of BAKDIL on 17 January. During these 12 years of service with much effort and repeated action, 94% of institutional delivery has been achieved.

The PHC have been awarded best PHC in North Garo Hills consecutively for four years for providing quality healthcare services to the people. This year also the PHC have received an award for top Performing PHC under ABPM-JAY and MHIS.

Dr. Rev. Sunny Joseph Mavelil, Director&Secretary BAKDIL graced the occasion as chief guest along with government officials from various departments.

Healthy baby show was organized as a part of celebration for the babies ageing 0 to 12 months where more than 50 babies have participated. Selection of winner is based in the health and immunization status of the baby.

Speaking during the programme, Director BAKDIL, Dr. Rev Sunny Joseph Mavelil appreciates the PHC management team and Dr. Crozier for their exceptional dedication and service to the people of Wageasi. He also appreciated those mothers who have completed infant immunization on time and for availing government schemes of MHIS and JSSK transportation.

While giving speech he mainly stressed on three key points that is to reduce Infant mortality rate, to make a habit of having small kitchen garden, and to stop teenage marriage and teenage pregnancy. He said that infant mortality is because mother is not having proper nutrition during her pregnancy as a result the baby is not getting required nutrition. He urges mothers to take extra care to their baby during 0 to 1 year saying that this is the period baby dies due to pneumonia, diarrhea and other diseases.

He also motivates the people to have a small kitchen garden of their own that will provide necessary nutrition without addition of any chemicals. “Besides taking supplementary nutrition from ICDS make your own kitchen garden from where you can get green fresh vegetables full of nutrition,” he said, “this will also increase blood contains in the body,” he added.

Later in the program the first sale of BAKDIL SPARK Hills products supported by MBMA was inaugurated by Dr. Crozier Sangma, MHO, Wageasi PHC. The products were ginger juice and ginger biscuits and worth of Rs. 3000 products have been sold in just few minutes.

Dr. Bontina G Momin, Extension Officer, Kharkutta C & RD Block, Ms. Susan R Marak, Lady Supervisor, ICDS, Mrs. Shienty D Shira, DPM, MHIS North Garo Hills, and Mr. Lindrid Sangma RMNCHA Counselor, were also present at the occasion.
