As many as 190 Anganwadis and ASHAs attended the orientation program on women’s health and women empowerment organized by BAKDIL implemented NRLM project at Bolsalgre Village under Selsela Block on 21 January 2021. Block Project Manager, NRLM, Shri Eugine Sangma, MIS Operator Ms, Nokche Sangma, and other six Anganwadi supervisors from ICDS have attended the program.
Around 285 SHGs have been formed during the last six months under the project and women are being taught to make habit of savings in the bank account and to start microeconomic activities. Despite forming groups and savings, NRLM also focused on the well-being of every woman.
Speaking on the program Block Project Manager Mr. Eugine Sangma said that, “Mother’s health is important long before a woman becomes pregnant. NRLM aims to lift the health and well-being of every mother and the make them physically and mentally strong.”
Many mothers lost their lives while giving birth to their children. This is due to not getting proper nutrition during pregnancy and the excess consumption of sodium bicarbonate decreases the iron absorption in the body that leads to iron deficiency.
The Anganwadi and ASHAs are subjected to follow up with every ANC mother and to bring them for regular check-ups. In some villages due to adverse road connection, the mother could not come to the hospital for delivery that puts the mother and child’s lives at risk.
Women from villages will be mobilized to organize health awareness programmes on women and child health care to prevent maternal and infant death.
Shri Sangma also explained the rules and regulations for forming SHGs and its tentative monthly meetings and savings procedure. “Once the group is formed (7 to 10 members) in a group every week meeting has to be conducted and the scheduled savings have to be maintained on weekly basis,” he said.
Internal loans will be given to group members from the savings generated to attend to the needs of the group members with a fixed period for repaying the loan amount.
