Women’s Day observed at various locations in G- Hills

The 5th All Garo Hills International Women’s Day Celebration cum sale and exhibition of Women SHG Products was organized by BAKDIL at various locations of Garo Hills in collaboration with NABARD, MSRLS, and Department of Social Welfare of different blocks. Due to the ongoing covid-19 protocols, the occasion could not be organized at one place for a large crowd like it was usually organized in previous years. Therefore the program had been split into a block-wise celebration.

The General Manager of NABARD, Shri. A.P Sarangi was the chief guest at the celebration of International Women’s Day at Selsella Block. DDM Nabard Shri. Madrass Dkhar, CDPO Smt. Madona T Sangma, Director BAKDIL Fr. Sunny Mavelil, DFS IBCB Ms. Anisha S Sangma, and many other officials were also present in the program.

The fortune celebration of women’s day was held at Bolsalgre Playground with the theme “Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal future in COVID-19 World”, where more than 2000 women participated and more than 100 SHGs had exhibited and sold their products.

Speaking to the crowd, GM Shri A.P Sarangi said that in the current scenario there is not a single program where SHG is not a part of socio-economic development at various levels. He also said that the NABARD has been the leading proof for the formation of SHGs, strengthening, nurturing, and also empowering them to take up economic activities.

“I am very happy to see such exhibitions and sales of the SHG products. This is not just an exhibition of small products but the encouragement and motivation to do more activities of this kind and bring out more products,” Sarangi said. He also appreciated the presentation of the products by the SHG leaders urging the women to have such motivation strongly installed in their hearts.

DDM Shri Dkhar has highlighted the impact of COVID-19 on the life of women saying that more savings have been generated and loans are also being paid regularly. He appreciates the economic activities taken up by the women amidst of COVID-19 pandemic that has helped many women in many ways. Speaking about the exhibition he motivates the women to look into a bigger picture of exporting local quality products globally.

The same program was organized in various locations wherein Tura the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Shri Ram Singh, IAS was the Chief Guest and Bishop of Tura, Rt. Rev. Andrew R Marak, and Maternal and Child Health Officer, Dr. Ivonne Sangma were guests of honor. Whereas the celebration of International Women’s Day in Dadenggre Block had Civil SDO, Shri Jagdish Chelani as the Chief Guest, and DDM South Garo Hills, Shri Kelchandra in Baghmara.
